Mission Statement
The EMS Department exists to provide pre-hospital patient care. Our primary duty is to insure the survival, comfort, safety and confidence of the patients while providing care. Therefore, certain standards are necessary for EMS personnel to perform when engaged in patient care and medical profession in general.
- A concern for survival, safety, comfort and confidence of patients.
- A good attitude and high standard of professional ethics.
- A striving for respect of the community and medical team.
Capabilities
Kendall County EMS is currently staffed by 13 full-time employees and many part-time to help cover the county's EMS needs. The 2007 call volume for the system was 2100+ responses.
The EMS Department operates four (4) fully equipped ALS transport ambulances. These units consist of two (2) Type I units and two (2) Type III units. Kendall County EMS has first responder agreements with the six fire departments throughout the county. This provides faster care to the sick or injured to the remote locations in the county.
There is one ambulance at the Comfort station and three (1 staffed) at the Boerne office.
At a minimum, all paramedic staff members are certified in:
- Basic Trauma Life Support
- Pediatric Life Support
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
Many hold National Registry as Paramedics, and a few are licensed from their college degree.
Leadership
Kendall County EMS is overseen on a day-by-day basis by Jeff Fincke, EMS Administrator.
Community Service
In addition to responding to all types of medical and trauma calls for assistance, Kendall County EMS maintains a high profile participating in community service projects such as CPR and First Aid classes at the BISD schools, raising money to donate to Heartland Children's Home and Meadowlands.
Staff members present programs for area Boy Scout and Girls Scout groups. They conduct tours of the ambulance, participate in reading programs and help with immunization clinics.
History
Kendall County EMS began operations as a volunteer EMS organization in 1974. Some of the original members included Jeff Fincke, Frieda Pressler, Tim and Gretel Kloss. Dan Smart was the system's EMS Director.
