The EMS Department exists to provide pre-hospital patient care. Our primary duty is to insure the survival, comfort, safety and confidence of the patients while providing care. Therefore, certain standards are necessary for EMS personnel to perform when engaged in patient care and medical profession in general.

Kendall County EMS is currently staffed by 13 full-time employees and many part-time to help cover the county's EMS needs. The 2012 call volume for the system was 2300+ responses.
The EMS Department operates four (4) fully equipped ALS transport ambulances. These units are all Type I units. There is one ambulance housed at the Comfort station with a full time crew 24/7 and three ambulances housed at the Boerne Station with one staffed 24/7. at the Boerne office. Kendall County EMS has first responder agreements with all seven of the fire departments throughout the county. This provides faster care to the sick or injured to the remote locations in the county.
At a minimum, all paramedic staff members are certified in:
- Basic Trauma Life Support
- Pediatric Life Support
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
Many hold National Registry as Paramedics, and a several medics are licensed paramedics because they have a college degree.
Kendall County EMS is overseen on a day-by-day basis by Jeffery Fincke, EMS Administrator.
In addition to responding to all types of medical and trauma calls for assistance, Kendall County EMS maintains a high profile participating in community service projects such as CPR and First Aid classes at the BISD schools, raising money to donate to Heartland Children's Home and Meadowlands.
Staff members present programs for area Boy Scout and Girls Scout groups. They conduct tours of the ambulance, participate in reading programs and help with immunization clinics.
Kendall County EMS began operations as a volunteer EMS organization in 1974. Some of the original members included Jeff Fincke, Frieda Pressler, Tim and Gretel Kloss. Dan Smart was the system's EMS Director.
