Community Wildfire Protection Plan
On August 24, 2023, County Judge Shane Stolarczyk, in collaboration with partners from the Texas A&M Forest Service, City of Boerne, seven Volunteer Fire Chiefs, Kendall County's Emergency Management Coordinator, and a group of very dedicated community volunteers, signed into effect Kendall County's Community Wildfire Protection Plan.

The CWPP was created from more than 3,000 volunteer hours and will help county and city leadership understand the risks, as well as the actions required to lessen those risks. This summer, we’ve had numerous days with temperatures that exceeded 100 degrees and multiple days in a row of red flag warnings—warning us of the heightened threat of wildfire. Our wildfire fire triangle is certainly completed, considering our hill country topography, weather, and conditions on the ground that are ripe for wildfire.
Wildland fire does not recognize jurisdictional boundaries. Working together, we can do more to achieve the goals of the National Cohesive Strategy to restore and maintain resilient landscapes across all jurisdictions; prepare communities so they can live with and withstand a wildfire without loss of life and/or property; and safely, efficiently, and effectively respond to wildfires when they happen, which will lessen the risk of wildfire to Kendall County.
According to Texas A&M Forest Service, 94 percent of Kendall County's growth is happening in the wildland urban interface or where most of Texas' wildfires occur. We expect that the firefighters and other first responders will respond when the fire happens; but we each have an even more important responsibility to do work around our homes to lessen the risks to our families, our neighbors, and the firefighters who respond.
