Proposition A

Kendall County is a very special place to live with its natural areas, clean water, wildlife habitat, and open vistas. This beautiful county is also one of the fastest growing and developing counties in the United States.

Because our citizens want to protect and preserve the natural beauty and resources of Kendall county, they approved a $20 million bond referendum in 2022 to acquire conservation land, open space, and conservation easements for recreational or open space use, or to protect wildlife habitat and the water quality of creeks, rivers and springs.

Kendall County is also part of the Camp Bullis Sentinel Landscape, a priority area designated by the United States military as fundamentally important to preserving the mission of Camp Bullis and Joint Base San Antonio.

The Sentinel Landscapes Partnership enables the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Department of Defense (DOD), and Department of the Interior (DOI) to collaborate for greater impact in locations where significant agricultural and natural resources, species habitat, and military training needs intersect.

The Camp Bullis Sentinel Landscape provides Kendall County with opportunities to leverage the county’s funds to attract federal grants and amplify the conservation impact of every dollar.

To advise the expenditure of this bond funding, the Kendall County Commissioners Court formed the Prop A Bond Committee.

Proposition A was approved by Kendall County Voters by a 2/3 majority vote. The bond proposition, which totals $20 million, provides funding to protect the Guadalupe River, our aquifer and groundwater supply, wildlife habitat, working ranches, and agricultural lands.

The authorized purposes include the following potential uses:

  • Protection of creeks, rivers, springs, watersheds and other natural infrastructure to maintain water qualityand/or facilitates groundwater recharge.
  • Access to land for recreational or open-space use for the public.
  • Conservation of land to protect quality wildlife habitat.
